A Doctor in India Gets Fooled by two Men into Buying Aladdin’s Lamp for $41,600

Two men were arrested by the Indian police of Uttar Pradesh for tricking a doctor into buying an Aladdin’s Lamp, a magical object that would bring a genie when it’s rubbed.

The news came from Dr. LA Khan who filed a complaint to a Meerut police station on October 25. He described how he was deceived by two con artists who were identified as Ikramuddin and Anees. They told the doctor that the lamp would bring him wealth, health, and good fortune.

To convince the doctor, they used a trick, summoning a genie by rubbing the lamp. It began when Khan was treating a patient who they claimed to be their ailing mother.

He started to visit their home for treating the woman for over a month. They started to tell me a story about a baba (godman), and asked me to meet the godman, said Khan to the police.

Khan eventually met him (baba) and he performed such rituals. They told me they would sell me a lamp for more than $200,000 (15.000.000 rupees), but I could only give $41,600 as a down payment, the doctor added.

I saw Aladdin (genie) in front of me during my visit, but I had no idea who that person was back then. I found it later that it was one of the men who dressed up to fool me, said Khan, according to NDTV.

A golden finish lamp was seized by the police as a proof of Khan’s complaint. The police told that the same men went to the city to trick many families and go by the name of ‘tantra vidya.’

“We have found the involvement of at least three people so far, two of whom have been arrested, while a woman is on the run,” Amit Rai, a senior Meerut police official, said.
